Cheryl Hines on Making the World a More Inclusive Place, Letting Go of Judgment & Embracing Uncertainty

How can you be happy even in times of much uncertainty? Cheryl Hines, Emmy nominated actress, cofounder of Hines & Young, producer, director, and podcast host is back to talk about the genesis of the new business she founded with her daughter Cat, and what it’s been like being married to someone who is running for president of the United States. She shares how we can make the world a more inclusive place, let go of other people’s judgments, live authentically, make space to take care of yourself, and trust that everything is going to be okay.

1. The yellow door is in front of you for a reason. Just walk through it and have faith that whatever’s supposed to happen will happen.
2. We have more in common than we ever could think. We need to get back to listening to each other.
3. The people who are most comfortable with uncertainty are more likely to be happier. Because nobody knows what’s going to happen. So you have to let go of that and just do everything to the best of your ability. Take a breath and trust the universe.
4. Wake up every day and just say, “Reporting for duty.” That’s the only thing we can do.
5. You are strong, and you’re going to get through this. You just have to be here for right now. You can’t stop the waves, but you can learn to be with them.
6. The only time you know what courage is, is when you have to use it.
7. Make a practice to stop and anchor yourself. Carve out the time to fill yourself up.
8. You can’t spend time concerning yourself with other people’s judgment because you can’t control it. There are already people that don’t like you – and you’ve survived it. Instead, fill your time with the thoughts of the people who do like you, who you connect with, who are important to you.
9. You’re not going to do everything right all the time. If today was a disaster, just leave it. Tomorrow’s a new day. It’s all going to be okay.
